Artist’s Statement
My oil paintings focus on interior spaces that are quiet, unoccupied, and suspended in time. I am drawn to rooms, entryways, and quiet corners because they hold evidence of life even when no one is there. By removing the human figure, I invite the viewer to sense presence through absence. These interiors function not only as physical environments but as extensions of the people who inhabit them.
Working in oil allows me to build layers slowly, echoing the way spaces accumulate meaning over time. The tactile quality of oil allows me to convey the texture and patina of the contents within a space. I focus on shifts in natural and artificial light, using shadow, muted tones, and edges to suggest stillness and pause.
The interiors function as psychological landscapes—sites of comfort, isolation, routine, or reflection. Through painting, I explore how personal identity and emotion can be embedded in the spaces we inhabit.”
