BIO
Unlike many artists who have drawn and painted since childhood, I had an upbringing that was not embedded in the arts. Although I occasionally dabbled with drawing comic book superheroes, I was taught that “serious” careers were built on science and math. I began my education by earning a BS in Mathematics from the United States Naval Academy. I then served seven years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator and an Instructor Pilot. After leaving the service I enjoyed a career as a commercial airline pilot for a major airline. During these years the intrigue of art was always simmering under the surface but life and career seemed to get in the way. Eventually I decided to act on my artistic desires by first taking art classes at the community college and then pursuing an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. This launched my second career as an oil painter. I love and often become frustrated with the process of oil painting. The challenges of creating a compelling and well executed oil painting are endless - that’s why I keep coming back. If I can find and translate the beauty of the mundane onto the canvas, I have succeeded. I hope you enjoy my work!
